Baked Apple Goodness!

Posted on Jan 19 2012 by David

The christmas season just ended but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a holiday season treat. How about a baked apple? It’s healthy but will still satisfy your sweet tooth. Below is a great recipe you can try. It’s my take on the classic baked apple.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon maple syrup (per apple)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp of Nutmeg
¼ tsp cardamom
Pinch of salt
4 Apples

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a small bowl, combine dried fruit, walnuts, maple syrup and spices.  Core each apple and place in a baking dish. Spoon one-fourth of the ingredients into each apple. Bake for 40 minutes or until apples are tender.  This dessert is great topped with a scoop of plain greek yogurt, or simply on its own.

FYI – Empire apples and honey-crisps work well for this recipe, but feel free to use your favorite apple.
